Where is the best place to live in Oregon? I’m looking to find a new place to live once I graduate college in the next year. I really love Oregon, but unfortunately have not had the opportunity to travel all across it yet. For those of you that live there, or have done much traveling, which city would you recommend? I’m looking for a place thats not excessively rainy, plenty of nature/hiking, a good place to start a steady career (or nearby at least), and fair housing prices.
As a native oregonian I always recommend Seattle . Oregon is a great place to live. Not too much rain…East of the Cascade Mtns. Plenty of nature and hiking. Pretty much the whole state. Steady career…probably the willamette valley. Fair housing prices. Butte montana. Gas and housing are ridiculous here. And Portland has the rep for being the most unfriendly place to start a small business. The taxes and permits will kill you.
Portland has Forest Park. The largest wilderness park inside city limits in the world. about 40 miles of trails for foot, bicycle or horseback. We also have Mill Ends park. The smallest city parkin the world….about 1 foot by 1 foot….True story! References :
All the cities of any size are in the Willamette Valley. My preference would be either Corvallis or Eugene. Both are college towns which as you know, offer the sports and entertainment that goes with a college. Portland is a good city if you want that kind of environment. It also has the most in terms of business opportunity. Lake Oswego and the surrounding area is a good suburb. Corvallis is smaller, quieter and more conservative than Eugene. Corvallis is also a bit more technology oriented as OSU is an engineering school and has some high tech companies. All of the Willamette Valley cities have good nature/hiking nearby. Unfortunately, they are all fairly rainy in the winter and spring. To get a drier climate, you have to go to a smaller town (like Bend) east of the Cascade Mtns.
