Manufacturing jobs are leaving Wales. Not only the manufacturing jobs, but the clerical jobs, also, are leaving. The problem seems to be about the lack of higher education in Wales. The HEW, which means Higher Education Institutions in Wales, provides an expert resource on the aspects of higher education.
The institutions of higher learning in Wales are committed to help to meet the economic challenges that are being faced now and for the future. The declining manufacturing jobs are being replaced by highly skilled jobs in the growing parts of the global economy. HEW is committed to this idea and is now working with government and the private sector to bring it to pass.
The University of Strathclyde economy model produced the following results: The HEW sector helped generate 2 billion output to the Welsh economy once multiplier effects are included. They gained export earnings for Wales of 170 million in 2005-06 that included 65 million from EU and the overseas grants and 104 million in fees and expenditure from the international students.
This proves that having higher education in Wales is the best way to create wealth in Wales. The universities are important players in every part of this nation to bring back manufacturing jobs to this country. They also play a part in the culture and regeneration of all of the Welsh communities whether it is South Wales or the rural areas of North and West Wales.
By higher education it contributes to the skills of the population and helps to expand the labour force with level 4 skills and above to 40% of the adult population by the year 2020, from a Welsh baseline of only 27%.
Universities are the key driver for the Welsh economy to improve in this century, and will bring back the manufacturing and clerical jobs to this country.
